Packing Problems

Hey Everyone!

I am so excited to get back to blogging, but more importantly back on the road for the summer.

With ever trip comes the typical problem of what to pack! When I first started traveling I was anything but a light packer. Trekking to England for a study abroad I took two extremely heavy suitcases. As the traveling commenced on the weekends I learned to stuff it down to a backpack for my few day get aways. At the time this felt like a massive accomplishment!

Five years later and I can say looking back it is crazy to think I took that much! Two years ago I thought I was amazing because I got it all into a massive duffle bag for a summer of travel. That was quickly embarrassing as I was rolling it down the muddy pathway in Nepal. I quickly realized that trip on how much I would want to buy and wear as I became hip to the travel and free spirit backpack world. Last year I wised up and read post after post about how much to pack on a true backpacking trip. The theme was always the same:

"Lay out what you think you need, cut it in half, and then cut it in half again."

I tried to follow the rule and was unbelievably surprised to fit in all in my back. A year later, and much wiser to the packing world, I am packed and ready to go.

Once again this year my mom will be joining me for a little over two weeks. Instead of meeting me at the end of the 7 weeks she will be joining me for the first 16 days. After a ton of pushing and demanding I finally packed! This is a new record! I am packed almost 4 days in advance.

Once all was said and done I think I did a decent job. Here is how different being a 20 something backpacker is from being a 60 something mom! She told me she earned her luxuries to carry as much as she wants. Hey who can blame her! Maybe I like the excitement and the sense of accomplishment when I know all that I need for over two and a half months can fit on my back!

Here were the results:

As you can see there is a slightttt difference in our luggage!

For those wondering my bags generally contains:

3 tank tops
2 fancy tank tops
1 coverup
1 fancy t shirt
1 long sleeve shirt
1 flannel
2 leggings
1 multicolor sport leggings
1 shorts
2 bras
1 swimsuit
1 DSLR camera/charger/batteries/sd cards
1 GoPro/ charger/ batteries/ sd cards
1 ipod
1 headphone
1 ipad
1 passport

Thank you guys for reading and I can not wait to post soon as I start my journey south of the Equator!!!!!!!
